Fànas Table

The void between objects
Combining contemporary industrial manufacturing and abstracted Celtic geometries, the Fànas Table’s mass is formed by the underlying patterns found throughout ancient Scottish and Irish artifacts.
Points of delicate tension occur where these underpinning geometries are on the cusp of collision and become heavy, steel posts where they become further apart. While viewed with motion, the table's vivid silhouette creates surprising overlaps of curves within curves and casts dramatic shadows which twist and turn with the shifting of the day's light.
From above, three concave, hot rolled steel legs intersect each other and are held, almost touching, by a series of recessed, hidden rare earth magnets. This avoids the need for any mechanical fixings in the project. The glass table top completes its orbit around the legs at the tangential overlap between the legs.
